Never out of stock!
Last Friday Leapfrog 3D Printers gave a presentation on the benefits of 3D printing for retail businesses at Q&A’s 10-year anniversary. “Never out of stock!” and “Customization” are probably the best ways of describing the benefits of 3D printing for the retail industry.
As part of Leapfrog 3D Printers’ mission, to guide businesses in discovering the added value of 3D printing, the presentation gave a clear view on a variety of printing possibilities. One is creating a database of spare parts. For example: when a button of an oven would somehow break, just print a new one, elongating the usage of the product. This would be possible with every sort of spare part. With a database retail businesses can offer the exclusive service of being ‘never out of stock’. A digital ‘storage’ would also be extremely space-efficient and spare parts are never taken out of production.
Another trend is the consumer need to customize products: designing cups, customizing clothing with self-designed buttons or adding personal features to home decorations. There is a clear consumer need for giving a personal touch to products – on the other hand giving retail businesses the opportunity of letting their customers become a part of their brand.
This event, organized by Q&A Consulting, was a platform for retail experts to share their knowledge in 10 minute PET talks. An ‘innovation square’ gave multiple companies the possibility to showcase their products. Leapfrog’s Creatr stole the show, printing the new Q&A logo.
