The XceL is advanced with a new version of the Leapfrog software. The software can be accessed via WiFi on your phone, tablet and PC. This means that you can upload your print to the XceL and start printing without leaving your seat! With this intuitive software you can monitor your 3D printed object - you can see in one glance how much filament there is left, how much time is left and pause or resume your print via WiFi. Accessing that one g.code from one machine and moving it to another machine can all be done via any device with WiFi and a browser.
The patented PerfectLevel™ auto calibrating system will save you time and money by efficiently calibrating the printer bed before each use for you. This way you can always rely on your printer to be ready when necessary to create smart 3D printed objects.
The XceL has a build volume up to 610 L. With this 3D printer you can print life-size objects almost 3 meters high. For printing in such a large scale extremely fast, the filament flow of the XceL nozzles is increased. A regular printer would have a flow of around 6 mm3 /second, where de XceL has an impressive flow of 45 mm3 /second. The Leapfrog XceL 3D printer models are of incredible size and resolution. In order to print so big, the XceL uses PLA filament and the Leapfrogs software features. Decos is an expert in smart technology and robotics. The Decos team built from scratch a functional 3D printed robot, using the XceL. The 3D printing process was easy and fast because of the printer’s large volume.
While the body of the butler is shaped organically and therefore complex for most production techniques, 3D printing stood up to the task. The height of the body (around 1 meter) made it a challenge, which was easily tackled by the XceL’s 2 meter height building platform. And by 3D printing it only took 2 days to produce the two parts.
The result looks great and is a testament to what the future of development, innovation, and production can bring. Jurjen just started his career as a robotics engineer and is already picking the fruits of the current technology, to create technology for times to come.
Team SPIRIT’s mission is to construct a car, which runs solely on clean energy. To achieve that, they are building a headwind car, which uses a propeller and wind to move forward. With the XceL 3D printer, they printed the wind blades easily because of its large build volume.
“Through using 3D printing we are hoping we can create more sets of blades for our team. We are also hoping to find a way to 3D print the diffuser ring, which is a really big part of the project. If not for 3D printing, the blades are usually made in segments, bonded together with glue and then laminated over. This process takes about two months, while with the help of Leapfrog 3D Printers the blades took only a month. 3D printing has also enabled us to save money. It takes away aluminum, which is a big reduction on costs. However, we believe more than anything that 3D printing saves time.”
