Is the 3D printed SpotiBear a hit toy?
The lovely 3D printed SpotiBear could be on its way to becoming the very first 3D printed hit toy. When you look at him, it's difficult to believe that he is printed - however, facts don't lie. But this bear is far more than just cute: it is able to connect itself to Spotify, so its owners can enjoy listening to audio files such as songs or stories. The SpotiBear has been created by Andreas Lindahl, and even though it appears to be very simple, it is anything but that. SpotiBear is definitely one of the most sophisticated and complex toys on the market today, and it is becoming a huge mainstream hit. Want to know what makes SpotiBear so very special?
First of all, the SpotiBear has been printed with a 3D printer. 3D printing that has been long considered a fantasy has now become more than just reality - it is becoming increasingly popular and widely used in many different industries, including the toy industry. When producing the SpotiBear, Lindahl and his partner Pär Johansson had quite a lot of software and hardware challenges to face. The initial design was made with Strata 3D, but some alterations had to be made in order to figure out how exactly to position the hardware.
The SpotiBear is definitely one of the cutest toys on the market today, but this didn't happen without any effort. Each of the SpotiBear's arms was carefully printed. The next steps were sanding, spray painting and applying a couple of layers of primer to ensure that the SpotiBear's appearance is truly flawless. However, the most important part was inserting all the hardware, making sure it fit to all the right places, and adding the control buttons. After that, all that was left to do was just the matter of downloading the Spotify app and the SpotiBear was ready to start grooving to the beat of your favourite songs.
The SpotiBear is truly a remarkable achievement: it looks just like an ordinary toy you are used to buying at the toy store, but its stunning characteristics and the fact that it actually came out of a 3D printer make it truly special. The toy bear that is becoming a huge hit all around the world may mark the beginning of a new era, in which the latest technology developments can end up being used in everyday reality and incorporated in objects we use regularly. We could soon start seeing some significant changes, and the SpotiBear could be the first (and possibly the cutest!) one of them.
