In house 3D printing: a prototype

As you can imagine, we do a lot of 3D printing here at our headquarters in the Netherlands,. We try to print everyday something new, challenging and useful but from time to time we also do our own special projects, like this one:

For one of our prototype 3D printers we needed a special case to fit and hold an LCD display so we designed it and put our Leapfrog Xeed 3D printer to work. The Xeed has no equal when it comes to precision and price. The heated bed chamber, touchscreen and Wi-Fi connection gives it the edge all projects are looking for. After 22 hours we had the model printed and ready for the first test.

We were amazed by the print quality we got from the first try but we needed to add something more so that our support would be fixed in the machine.

The two brass colored threaded holes had been mounted into the PLA by using a soldering iron to heat up the particle and were then pressed into the PLA resulting in a perfect prototype for our machine that can hold the display.
