Printing advanced engineering materials

Typically, desktop FDM printers can only print with PLA which is a basic type of plastic that is great for rapid prototyping but generally useless for functional components. The Leapfrog Bolt is able to print with a wide variety of materials, such as ABS (strong engineering plastic), Flex (3D print flexible material allowing a wide range of moving parts), Polycarbonate (light and chemically inert), HT (high temperature resistant) and a variety of soluble support materials.

Through Leapfrog’s open material policy, the engineer is able to test their own engineering materials as well! Four key technical innovations allow such a wide range of materials to be printed: independent moving heads, high temperature hotends, a direct drive system and a full enclosure.

Advanced hotends

The Bolt has several advanced hotends, which reach up to 360°C for high temperature advanced engineering materials. Or equip the stainless steel hotend for abrasive materials. Use new and experimental materials and find the right settings due to the open material filament system.

Direct drive

A direct drive system controls the filament feed close to the nozzle, allowing optimal control. This straight forward system is better than a Bowden set-up, especially for flexible materials and advanced filaments.

Independent Dual extruders (IDEX)

Combine two materials with the two independent dual extruders which also allow a large temperature difference. Create complex parts and find new solutions by combining different filaments.

Full enclosure

The Bolt is fully enclosed and can heat up its' build volume. This provides more control on advanced materials and improves the consistency of the built parts. Any possible toxic gases from exotic materials are filtered out by the activated carbon HEPA filter.

Multiplatform user interface

The Bolt is designed with the engineering workflow in mind. It can cost your company if an engineer needs to spend a lot of time to attend the printer. Using wifi access, a built-in webcam and full browser access, the 3d printing workflow is easer than ever before. The user interface is Android and IOS compatible, or any other operating system with a browser. Connect and instantly access, and upload directly prints to the Bolt using the wifi connection.

Built extremely durable

The Bolt is an industrial machine and is made out of 5mm sheet metal, the guiding rods for X and Y movement are 12mm solid steel. This makes the machine extremely durable, which you can feel as it weighs over 70kg. Its build area is 330x320mm. Compared to our competition - which are typically engineered using smaller and often plastic components - the Bolt is a true engineering machine, built to last.
