3D Printing a Zoetrope “The OctoMadness” is created by Leapfrog 3D Printers and WaterMelon.
Inspired by Pixar and Ghibli and their desire to turn animation into something real, waterMelon challenged themselves to build a 3D printed Zoetrope for the 2014 KLIK animation festival. The OctoMadness is a combination of 3D animation, 3D printing, sawing, painting and gluing every piece together. It really embodies all of the things that WaterMelon loves to do.
Designer and animator Klaas-Harm de Boer, wanted to create very flexible characters that show the power and freedom of animation. This zoetrope enables the audience to see each individual frame separately and gives a great insight into creating the final animation.
A BIG thanks to everybody that got involved and put in their time and effort to make this one happen! Thanks for the great experience and collaboration!
